Cut PVC and acrylic letters are flat, unlit and inexpensive, and they are the right answer far more often than people expect. Acrylic comes in thicknesses from an eighth of an inch up to an inch; PVC for outdoor use is usually three-quarters of an inch or thicker so it stays flat. Neither needs power, and both can be painted to match a brand colour exactly.
